THE JEWELERS BUILDING
     Adler and Sullivan, Architects
     15-17 South Wabash Avenue.   Chicago

Tucked under the El, this Sullivan masterpiece is receiving extensive renovations.

Extensive ornamentation define the facade. Motifs range from geometric to floral.

Variations in Size, Scale, Color, Shape and Texture are used in the Jeweler's
Composition . Windows on the highest floor are reduced in size, simulating distance.
The Wabash Avenue Facade is symmetrical, but is clipped to an angle at the alley.

Innovative cast iron columns flank the retail entrance on the ground floor.

The Jewelers Building was among Sullivan's earliest work. Experimentation
here would become the fluent vocabulary of a seasoned architect in years to come.
